Got old greeting cards??? We are collecting used greeting cards and recycling them into bookmarks. We will only use the front of the card to cut into strips. If you want to cut off the inside, personal message before sending to school that would be great.
Students...tell me or Ms. Sparks that you read this on the Library Blog and receive a special prize!!!

Podcasts at Waldron Elementary
Link to library Google site and classroom podcast links...
Wow! I'm so excited about the Podcasts that some of our 4th grade students are creating! Mrs. Atchley's math/science classes wrote and recorded "grabbers" for a research presentation. They played their podcasts for the class during the presentation. Mrs. Picken's literacy classes have created a classroom newspaper. The AM class just published their newspaper today. Each student who contributed an article to the newspaper recorded a podcast. All of the podcasts are published on the library Google site for everyone to enjoy. I encourage you to visit the site, click on a classroom, and learn something new! Our kids are doing GREAT things at Waldron Elementary!

Meet Indigo
We have a new addition to the library. Indigo, the Beta fish, and his friend "snail" have moved in. Ms. Sparks had a great idea for adding the aquarium to the library. We asked students to help name the fish, and the name Indigo seemed to fit. All the students check on Indigo when they come in to check out books. Ms. Sparks has plans to change the aquarium background to fit the holidays/seasons. Right now Indigo's aquarium resembles a spider web. Good idea Ms. Sparks!

The Book Fair is Here!
The Scholastic Book Fair is almost over! Students have visited the Book Fair with their classmates this week. We have two guessing jars available with Tootsie Rolls and Peppermint candy. Guess the amount of candy in the jar and you win the jar! The Book Fair will be open from 11:00 - 8:00 on Monday, September 26, 2011 during Parent/Teacher Conferences. This will be the last day! Come by the library and support our students with your purchase at the Book Fair. All profits will be used to purchase additional technology and non-fiction materials for students to use. If you have already purchased something from the Book Fair, THANK YOU! If not, we look forward to seeing you on Monday!

Welcome!
Welcome to the new Waldron Elementary Library Blog! I am excited about the school year and the fun activities going on in the library. K-1 students have been listening to stories about Clifford the Big Red Dog by Norman Bridwell. There is a possibility that Clifford might be visiting the Book Fair very soon! A few classes of 2nd grade students have learned how to create a Wordle using vocabulary words from a unit of study on habitats. 4th grade students will be coming this week to learn about reference materials, both print and non-print. Very soon after the book fair, 3rd grade students will learn about using an Atlas. Don't forget the Book Fair coming September 19th - 26th. We will be open during Parent/Teacher conferences on Monday, September 26th. Please come an support the book fair! All profits from the fair will go towards new books and technology for our students.
